February marks Black History Month in Canada—an important time to celebrate and recognize the contributions of Black Canadians and reflect on Black health in Canada and the anti-Black racism that continues to impact our pharmacy colleagues and patients.

The Canadian Pharmacists Association (CPhA) is encouraged by federal health minister Mark Holland’s recent statement clarifying Canada Health Act rules around access to medically necessary services.

CPhA is urging Canada Health Infoway to delay the implementation of its proposed $0.20 per transaction fee for PrescribeIT, Canada’s national e-prescribing solution. Set to take effect on January 1, 2025, the fee would place significant financial pressure on pharmacies nationwide and likely result in pharmacies dropping out of the program.
